Product Description
Relive the time Peter spent with Jesus, from the Great Commission to the life-changing Last Supper and the Garden of Gethsemane. Set in Rome in AD 67. Two jailers at the ancient Mamertine Prison take custody of a famous criminal. He is Simon Peter of Galilee - apostle, disciple and personal friend of Jesus, also called "The Christ." Condemned to death, the elderly Peter (Robert Loggia) recounts his life as a simple fisherman who became one of the boldest figures in all of Christianity. As Peter prepares to depart this earthly life, he makes an unforgettable impression on his jailers through the saving power of the Gospel.
Editorial Review
- This is a must-see DVD! It features top notch acting, a powerful biblical story of hope and that anything is possible.
- Set in Rome in 67 A.D. the Apostle Peter has been imprisoned for his faith. He is sentenced to die by crucifixion. Emperor Nero has decreed that followers of Christ should be hunted and persecuted for their beliefs and he especially wants the leaders of the young Christian church. While in jail Peter witnesses to a young guard named Martinian (Laurence Fuller) who is more interested in learning about Jesus than he lets on. The elderly Peter is played superbly by Robert Loggia, who adds the right dashes of kindness and resolve to the character's determined confidence.
- Martinian's wife, Novella (Sarah Prikryl), is very good too as a woman who wants desperately to see Peter, in the hopes that he will pray for her to have a child. Peter shares reflections of his past in following Jesus with Martinian, including the last supper and the time when Christ states one of the disciples would betray him. During this reflection a good overview of the various disciples and their personalities are featured.
- There is a brief hanging scene in the film in which the character's feet are seen dangling and a vacant look on his face but there is a minimum of violence, including a guard striking another one. The powerful message of redemption, and the subsequent conversion of two key characters, makes this program well worth viewing. We are pleased to say it will receive five Doves from us, and it has earned every single one! - Edwin L. Carpenter, The Dove Foundation
