Set in the mid-1800s, the film opens as an elderly Antonio Salieri (rival and contemporary of Mozart), attempts suicide by slitting his throat while loudly begging forgiveness for having killed a long-deceased Mozart. Placed in a lunatic asylum for the act, he is visited by a young priest who seeks to take his confession. Salieri eventually launches into a long "confession" about the relationship between himself and Mozart. Later scenes continue to cut back to this dialog, as Salieri recounts how his piety, jealousy and pride drove him to ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ__ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ__ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ__ÌÎÌ_Ì´åÇÌÎå«Ì´ÌàavengeÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ__ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ__ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ__ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´åÇ MozartÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ__ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ__ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´ÌàÌÎÌ_Ì´åÇÌÎå«ÌÎÌÊs genius.

A young Salieri promised God celibacy in return for fame as a musician. As he rises in talent and prestige, GodÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ__ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ__ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´ÌàÌÎÌ_Ì´åÇÌÎå«ÌÎÌÊs favor seems upon him, yet with the arrival of Mozart, Salieri is overshadowed and, as a result, sets out to ruin Amadeus and gain the fame he feels God owes him.
