"Perfect love casts out fear." ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´å 1 John 4:18
Have you ever wondered what happened to the early Christians after the book of Acts? What trials did they face and overcome? "Polycarp" is like a journey to the past, giving us a glimpse of that world. A young slave girl, Anna, is rescued and adopted by Christians in second-century Smyrna and befriended by their aged bishop Polycarp. As Anna is taught by Polycarp and her new family, she struggles to reconcile her beliefs with those of the Christians. When the Roman proconsul demands that all citizens worship Caesar to show their allegiance to Rome, Polycarp and the Christians must find courage to stand for their faith against the growing threat of persecution. Anna is forced to come to grips with the truth and choose whom she is willing to live ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´å and die ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´å for.
"After I watched this new movie I was moved to consider if I would be prepared to stand for the Lord as Polycarp did. I believe every Christian needs to be challenged by this film. Based on real history and real Christians suffering real persecution, itÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´åÇs a message we all need to be reminded of. Christian persecution is already happening in America and itÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´åÇs going to increase if things continue as they are." ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´å Ken Ham, president, Answers in Genesis and the Creation Museum
ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ_Ì´å«Too few believers today are familiar with the stories of the champions of the faith ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´å from ancient times as well as those martyrs giving their lives in growing numbers today. Polycarp is one of the former, and this movie has an urgent message of GodÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´åÇs love for the latter.ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ_ÌÎå´ ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´å Joseph Farah, editor and chief executive officer, WND.com
ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ_Ì´å«POLYCARP issues a call that resonates with Joshua's mandate to 'choose you this day whom you will serve.' This is a moving story of second-century persecution, reminiscent of the persecution many believers face today.ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ_ÌÎå´ ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´å The Kendrick Brothers, creators of ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ_Ì´å«Courageous,ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ_ÌÎå´ ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ_Ì´å«FireproofÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ_ÌÎå´ and ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ_Ì´å«Facing the GiantsÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ_ÌÎå´
ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ_Ì´å«POLYCARP is a God-honoring, Christ-centered, and moving story that will make you want to run with the divine message, while we still have the God-given liberty.ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ_ÌÎå´ ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´å Ray Comfort, evangelist and bestselling author
ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ_Ì´å«A creeping concern among Christians today, persecution of the church in America is a fast-growing fear and slow-but-steady threat. So how can we find hope? ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ__ I was intrigued by the dialogue of the Polycarp character. More often than not, he quoted Bible passages as though they were ordinary speech. He didnÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´åÇt use a preachy, heavy handed, Jesus said... style, but simply spoke sacred words in the most natural contexts. ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎÌ__ Polycarp reminds us that as Christians, we are part of something much larger than this temporal life. Perhaps thatÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´åÇs the vehicle of hope in this film. With todayÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´åÇs increasing religious restriction and a spreading dread of persecution, Polycarp argues the opposite of weakness and fear. It raises up pillars of Biblical truth instead. Quoting from the Bible, Polycarp describes how he deals with his own fear, Perfect love casts out fear. When he looks honestly at the God who loved and saved him in his sinful state, the God who walks with him every moment, and the God who will be waiting for him even if he should die, fear is an empty lie. Somehow we emerge from the film with a greater trust in God as our sovereign, protector, and trustworthy advocate. We emerge with gratitude for what Christ did for us, and a sense of belonging in GodÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´åÇs eternal story. We emerge with the courage to resist our own weakness and expose fear for the lie that it is." ÌÎÌ_ÌÎ_ÌÎå«Ì´å ChristianCinema.com
