Rocker - Scars and Strikes (Autographed)(Hardcover)

John Rocker and J. Marshall Craig

Product Description

You don' t know John Rocker. I mean, really, you may have been in the packed stadiums or caught him on television at the height of his career pitching in a World Series for the Atlanta Braves, or in the American League playoffs for the Cleveland Indians. Maybe you caught him with one of the other various teams he was with during his career. And no doubt you've heard or read controversies over some of his public comments. But the REAL John Rocker is going to surprise you.

This book, written almost entirely from Rocker's own personal hand, is a coming-of-age story about a young kid who was ''bitten'' with the dream to become a major leaguer. Detailing his rise and ultimate fall, Rocker offers a never-before-heard rendition of his life, career as well as personal accounts of the infamous "Sports Illustrated" article for which he is most known.

About the Author

John Rocker was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 18th round of the 1993 June amateur draft and spent nine seasons with the organization where he served as the team's closer for the final four years. While with the Braves, Rocker became a key component to the organization's success and was an integral part of numerous Division Titles, a National League Championship and World Series appearance. After being traded to the Cleveland Indians in 2001 where Rocker was a part of the Tribe's Central Division Pennant, John moved on to the Texas Rangers before finishing his career with the Tampa Bay Rays due to a severe shoulder injury. During the years since his retirement, Rocker – wanting to stay close to the game – has contributed commentary on many occasions to ESPN Radio in New York as well as Sporting News Radio. In addition to sports-related commentary, Rocker began a real estate development company in 2005 and has been responsible for the development of nearly 1,000 multifamily, single-family and attached housing units.

J. Marshall Craig is the award-winning writer of Eric Burdon's "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood"; Chuck Leavell's "Between Rock and a Home Place"; "Growing a Better America" also with Chuck Leavell; the highly anticipated memoirs of controversial former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker, "Rocker: Scars & Strikes"; the novel "Eh Mail"; and the World War I history "You're Lucky If You're Killed." His work appears in various literary collections with Tom Wolfe, Hunter S. Thompson, Jack Kerouac and others ("The Outlaw Bible of American Literature"); Hells Angels founder Sonny Barger, Che Guevara and others ("She's A Bad Motorcycle"); and CNN talk show host Larry King ("Remember Me When I'm Gone"). Craig is also an award-winning feature film ("Fabulous Shiksa in Distress") and music video director. He produced Australian director Frank Howson's feature film "Remembering Nigel," as well as "The Nigel Diaries." His next novel, "The Excellent Victim," is expected in late 2012.
