The Liberty Amendments: Restoring the American Republic (Hardcover)
“Today Congress operates not as the Framers intended, but in the shadows, where it dreams up its most notorious and oppressive laws, coming into the light only to trumpet the genius and earnestness of its goings-on and to enable members to cast their votes.”– Mark R. Levin
“The Liberty Amendments” is the long-awaited new blueprint on how to fix our broken government by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of “Liberty and Tyranny” and “Ameritopia.” Mark R. Levin makes the case that the principles undergirding our society and governmental system are unraveling. In “The Liberty Amendments,” he turns to the Founding Fathers and the Constitution itself for guidance in restoring the American republic.
For a century, the Statists have steadfastly constructed a federal Leviathan, distorting and evading our constitutional system in pursuit of an all-powerful, ubiquitous central government. The result is an ongoing and growing assault on individual liberty, state sovereignty and the social compact. Nearly all will be emasculated by it, Levin argues, including the inattentive, the ambivalent and the disbelieving. If we cherish our American heritage, he contends, it is time to embrace a constitutional revival.
The delegates to the 1787 Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia and the delegates to each state's ratification convention foresaw a time when – despite their best efforts to forestall it – the federal government might breach the Constitution's limits and become oppressive. Agencies such as the IRS, and EPA and programs such as Obamacare, now demonstrate that the Framers' fear was prescient.
The Framers anticipated this day might arrive, for they knew that republics deteriorate at first from within, and they provided us a lawful and civil way to repair the damage. We the people, through our state legislatures acting collectively, have enormous power to constrain the federal government, reestablish self-government and secure individual sovereignty. In this book, Levin lays forth his specific prescriptions for restoring the American republic.
