Paula Deen's Southern Cooking Bible: The New Classic Guide to Delicious Dishes... (Hardcover)
This book is my proudest achievement so far, and I just have to tell y’all why I am so excited about it. It’s a book of classic dishes, dedicated to a whole new generation of cooks—for every bride, graduate, and anyone who has a love of a great Southern meal. My family is growing and expanding all the time. We’re blessed with marriages and grandbabies, and so sharing these recipes for honest, down-home dishes feels like passing a generation’s worth of stovetop secrets on to my family, and yours.
I’ve been cooking and eating Southern food my whole life, and I can tell you that every meal you make from this book will be a mouthful of our one-of-akind spirit and traditions. These recipes showcase the diversity and ingenuity of Southern cuisine, from Cajun to Low-Country and beyond, highlighting the deep cultural richness of our gumbos and collards, our barbecues and pies. ... I sincerely hope that this book will take its place in your kitchen for many years to come, as I know it will in mine. Here’s to happy cooking—and the best part, happy eating, y’all!
“Stuffed with more than 300 recipes for every occasion imaginable, Deen’s cookbook sets out to prove that nothing beats home cooking. The Emmy-winning restaurateur and bestselling cookbook author has snowballed in popularity since beginning her TV career on the Food Network. Here, alongside New York Times food writer Clark, Deen aims to claim a well-deserved spot in the pantheon of engaging and enlightening culinary writers. The author divides her offerings into 16 easily navigable categories, with a large section of sauces, dressings and relishes to boot. Each recipe is written with exceptional attention to detail, yet the instructions are simple, rarely exceeding four steps. The author’s inimitable voice enhances the introductions to each chapter, as well as sidebars and handy headnotes. As for critics of her penchant for high-caloric ingredients like butter and cream, let them eat Ooey Gooey Butter Layer Cake. Just make sure you don’t miss out on the Low-Country Boil, a Southern tradition and one-pot wonder of which Deen writes, ‘Y’all, just one taste of Low-Country Boil is enough to remind you that down South even if you’re poor in the pocket, you’re rich in the belly.’ Preach it, Paula.”
“It is the most comprehensive repertoire of Southern dishes you’ll ever be able to find, and they are all done Paula’s way. 80% of the recipes are new, but every one of them is considered fundamental to eating in the South. The book is structured like The Joy of Cooking and other bibles of the kitchen: from the beginning of the meal—hot and cold appetizers—to the end—cakes, cookies, and pie. It has how-to illustrations throughout, showing how to peel a shrimp and how to make sweet potato balls without getting marshmallow all over your hands. Complete with sixteen pages of full-color photos, PAULA DEEN'S SOUTHERN COOKING BIBLE will be the kind of must-have book that will be on every bridal and house-warming registry, a culinary and lifestyle reference book for the next generation.”
“You could literally take this cookbook and build your entire menu start to finish. With seventeen chapters, it covers everything from appetizers, soups, brunch dishes, to - my personal favorite – pies, and so so much more. My mouth watered just reading the table of contents – do not even get me started on reading the actual recipes!
“I have many cookbooks on my shelves that hardly ever get used because the ingredients for the recipes are obscure, hard to find, and often leave me running to Google to figure out what they actually are. One of my favorite things about ‘Paula Deen's Southern Cooking Bible’ is that just about every recipe has ingredients that are simple and easy to find. I also love the tips that are included in many of the recipes. … With its wide range of meals and dishes, ‘Paula Deen's Southern Cooking Bible’ could possibly be the only cookbook you need on your shelf. And, in all good southern hospitality, it would also make a great hostess gift (or wedding gift or graduation gift or housewarming gift)!” – Christen Krumm
